Berkshire Medical Center on Thursday will open a 30-bed long-term recovery unit for people suffering from opioid and substance abuse addiction in Pittsfield. It’s the only unit of its kind in Berkshire County. The Clinical Stabilization Services Unit is designed to stabilize patients after an initial detox program at BMC’s McGee Recovery Center. It offers behavioral health education along with individual and group counseling. Dr. Alex Sabo chairs BMC’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health.

“People will be getting the support of other people in early recovery and all those beautiful programs which will really them a fighting chance to solidify their recovery,” said Sabo.

People can stay at the new unit for up to 30 days with the hope they transition to The Brien Center’s Keenan House or another residential recovery home.
