Unlike other regional districts, the Berkshire Hills Regional School District says it does not plan to revert to entirely remote learning in the weeks after Thanksgiving.

The district – which represents Great Barrington, Stockbridge and West Stockbridge – has three schools and around 1200 students. Superintendent Peter Dillon says the in week after the holiday, elementary school students will continue in-person education, with all middle and high school students except those with higher needs continuing to work remotely.

“Our 3rd and 4th graders are in two days a week and they’re working remotely three days a week, and our initial plan is to bring them back – the 3rd and 4th graders – to being in four days a week starting on December 7th,” he told WAMC.

Pittsfield has suspended in-person education at least until December while Lenox is remote through mid-January.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
