Berkshire Health Systems has partnered with Price Chopper to open a walk-in care center in the supermarket’s Hubbard Avenue location currently being renovated in Pittsfield.Staffed by a nurse practitioner and located near the store’s pharmacy, the walk-in is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. BHS spokesman Michael Leary says people with minor issues like sore throats, pains and urinary tract infections can seek care at the center.

“Things that you may have considered at one time going to the emergency room for,” Leary said. “That’s another factor that’s involved in this. The cost of care in a hospital emergency department is fairly expensive for the treatment of minor illness and injury.”

Accepting all insurance plans contracted with BHS, the walk-in will relay information to patients’ primary care doctor. Soon to be Market 32, Price Chopper has walk-in centers at its Latham and Malta locations.
