The Episcopal Churches of Berkshire County are holding an event in Pittsfield on Sunday to combat world hunger.
10 episcopal churches from around the county are working with a nonprofit called Rise Against Hunger to prepare tens of thousands of meals for the hungry around the world. Father Sam Smith of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Stockbridge says it all begins when a semi-truck delivers a mountain of supplies to volunteers at Zion Lutheran Church in Pittsfield on Sunday afternoon.
“We’re going to unload that and bring all that in and then they’ll teach us how to assemble all of that and in about two and a half hours, we’ll put together 20,000 meals, which then they will take off to ship to whomever needs it.”
Smith says the event was inspired by the churches’ collaboration on last year’s Revival In October, when Episcopal Presiding Bishop Michael Curry preached at the First United Methodist in Pittsfield.
