The Berkshire Eagle and the North Adams Transcript will merge on January 20.
Partners since 1996 under New England Newspapers Inc. the two dailies will combine staff to cover all of Berkshire County within the pages of one paper. Starting January 20t Transcript subscribers will receive The Berkshire Eagle, a paper expected to be at least double the size of the current one. Also, the weekly Advocate, which provides localized coverage of Northern Berkshire County, will publish its last edition on January 16. The Eagle’s Berkshires Weekarts and cultural magazine will be published as a standalone every week expanding upon its seasonal, in-paper status. The merger is meant to save money and reduce content redundancy in overlapping coverage areas.
