Bard College Finalizes Montgomery Place Purchase

A college in the Hudson Valley has finalized the purchase of a 380-acre estate, creating a 1,000 acre campus.

Bard College has purchased Montgomery Place from Historic Hudson Valley, which had owned the estate since the late 1980s. The estate, which is adjacent to the Bard campus in Dutchess County, consists of an historic mansion, farm and some 20 smaller buildings. Bard will create a master plan to guide the integration of the two campuses and utilize the new facilities in a manner consistent with the college’s commitment to historic preservation, public access, and the environment. Bard intends to retain public access to Montgomery Place, preserve its landscape, and maintain the farm.
