The Berkshire District Attorney’s office says Pittsfield Police have made an arrest in a shooting early Tuesday in the October Mountain State Forest.

DA Paul Caccaviello spoke to the press around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday about the 1 a.m. shooting at the Ashley Reservoir.

“This afternoon, shortly before 3 o’clock, the Pittsfield Police Department arrested 19-year-old Kevin Nieves of Pittsfield,” said Caccaviello.

The teen, who was arrested in Pittsfield, is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, illegal possession of a firearm, kidnapping, and assault and battery.

Caccaviello said the matter is still under investigation, and members of the public should contact state police with any information about the case at 413-499-1112.

The yet unidentified victim is still listed in critical condition at Berkshire Medical Center.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
