A legislative official says a member of New York's ethics board has quit after the hiring of another staffer with ties to Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The official familiar with the decision says law professor and ethicist Ellen Yaroshefsky submitted her resignation Tuesday. The official spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to announce the resignation.

It came after the Joint Commission on Public Ethics hired a former Cuomo staffer as executive director to succeed another former Cuomo employee.

Yaroshefsky gave no reason for resigning after a closed-door meeting over the hiring of Letizia Tagliafierro.

In a brief public session, Yaroshefsky had asked for what she called an independent search for an executive director.
