Any Questions #376: Electio"n" "N"ight

WAMC's Ian Pickus and resident quizzer Mike Nothnagel switch seats for a post-election quiz.

Last week's challenge
Start with the name VAN DOREN. Add a letter and you can rearrange the result to spell a five-letter word that can precede the word "gas" and a four-letter word that can follow the word "gas" to make common two-word phrases. What are the words?
Answer: Add a G and you can spell ARGON and OVEN.

THIS WEEK'S CATEGORY: ELECTIO“N”  “N”IGHT
On-air questions: Well, Mike, if we’re running on fumes today, it’s because it’s the end of a week that — maybe you heard — included the midterm elections on Tuesday. As usual, we were here in the newsroom until the wee, wee hours covering the results. Every election is about endings and beginnings. In honor of election night, each correct answer this week will be two words — one that ends with an N and one that starts with N.

1. The National League baseball team that moved to its current East Coast city in 2005.
2. The Princeton University mathematician whose struggles with mental illness were portrayed by Russell Crowe in the 2001 Oscar-winning film “A Beautiful Mind.”
3. The Saturday Night Live alum who is the only “Weekend Update” host to fit this category, who has gone on to perform on “Weeds” and “Man With A Plan.”
4. The second-most populous city in its country, it’s the southernmost capital in the world.
5. The title subject of a 1959 film, it is an idea from Commander Eros to get humans’ attention by resurrecting the dead.

Extra credit
1. Sometimes associated with his famous music recording brothers, his hits include “Everybody Plays The Fool” and “Tell It Like It Is.”
2. The NBA team that didn’t fit this category until 2012 when they moved 13 miles and one state away.

This week's challenge
Start with the name NANCY PELOSI. Rearrange the letters and you can spell a current country name and a former country name. What are they?
