Any Questions #253

WAMC's Ian Pickus and resident quizzer Mike Nothnagel are too clever by half.

Last week's challenge
Start with the phrase SAINT JOHN. Change one letter to a D and you can rearrange the result to spell a two-word phrase (4, 5) for what people might do before praying. What is the phrase?
Answer: If you change the T to a D, you can spell JOIN HANDS.

THIS WEEK'S CATEGORY: HALVES
On-air questions: Today, July 1, is the halfway point of 2016. It's the 183rd day of the year, and there are 183 more days left to go. If it weren’t a leap year, then July 2 would be as close to the halfway point as you could get (182 days past, 182 days after). To commemorate us making it 50 percent of the way through 2016, this week our quiz is about famous halves.

2. "When you're here, you're halfway there" is the slogan of the Midpoint Café. Located in Adrian, Texas, the café advertises itself as being exactly halfway between Los Angeles and Chicago – 1,139 miles from each city – along what historic highway?
3. After it was revealed he wrote several books attributed to Richard Bachman, what author wrote a novel titled The Dark Half, in which an unsuccessful author uses a pseudonym to write crime novels, and, upon being discovered, holds a mock funeral for his alter ego?
4. Federico Fellini's classic 1963 film 8½ tells the story of Guido Anselmo, a director suffering from "director's block". It was the basis for a 1982 Tony-winning Broadway musical directed by Tommy Tune and a 2009 film directed by Rob Marshall, both with what numerical title?
5. Introduced in 1999, Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor Half Baked is so named because it combines two flavors: chocolate ice cream with brownie pieces (the part that is baked) and vanilla ice cream with what unbaked ingredient?
