For the 35th time, a consumer watchdog group has released an annual report on toy safety.
This edition of “Trouble in Toyland” published by the U.S. Public Interest Research Groupnotes that over the last five years close to 250,000 children have been treated for toy-related injuries.

The pandemic has added some new concerns, notes the report, because of more online shopping and children spending more time at home with less supervision from parents who are working from home.

The report flags recalled toys, choking hazards, and dangerously noisy toys.

WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Deirdre Cummings, Consumer Program Director with MassPIRG.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
