Annual Riverkeeper Sweep Is Saturday

Courtesy of Riverkeeper

The seventh annual Riverkeeper Sweep takes place Saturday. There will be a focus on reducing plastic waste.

Some 2,000 volunteers are expected to clear shorelines and plant trees at more than 100 locations along the Hudson River and its tributaries, from New York Harbor to the Adirondacks. There are site specific initiatives, including, in the Adirondacks, to help build awareness about invasive insects and plants. And in Westchester County, Green Ossining will partner with Riverkeeper and the village to stencil a ‘Stop Pollution Please’ message next to storm drains, to show that storm drains often lead directly to waterways and contribute to debris and pollution in the Hudson River. Riverkeeper also will collect signatures to support a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags in New York.
