On October 29th, Albany Pro Musica opens their season at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall with “Across the Vast, Eternal Sky: The Music of Ola Gjeilo.”
Gjeilo, Albany Pro Musica’s composer in residence, is one of the most frequently performed composers in the choral world. An accomplished pianist, improvisations over his own published choral pieces have been a trademark of his collaborations across the world and his music is often described as cinematic and evocative, with a lush, harmonious sound.
He will be joined at this concert by the American String Quartet. Critics and colleagues hold the American String Quartet in high esteem and many of today’s leading artists and composers seek out the Quartet for collaborations. Currently in their 41st season together, they will be joining Ola on piano after performing a signature masterwork of their own.
Joining us today to discuss this evocative concert is José Daniel Flores-Caraballo, Albany Pro Musica’s Artistic Director and Ola Gjielo.
