Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan and city Police Chief Eric Hawkins have named members to a task force designed to reimagine police practices.
The formation of Albany’s Policing Reform and Reinvention Collaborative was announced Thursday.
In line with a directive from Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, the task force will hold weekly discussions on improving police-community relations and implicit bias beginning next week.
More than three dozen members will make up the task force, including Mayor Sheehan, Chief Hawkins, Albany County District Attorney David Soares, other members of city and county government, as well as leaders of several community groups and local business owners.
Recommendations must be submitted to the state by April, 2021.
All meetings will be open to the public and will be streamed online beginning next Tuesday.
