A winner has emerged in a close Columbia County mayoral race.

When absentee and affadavit ballot counting was done, Democrat Tiffany Martin Hamilton became the city of Hudson’s first elected female mayor. The unofficial tally, reported Thursday by the Register-Star newspaper, gave Hamilton a 27-vote win.  She led by just 36 votes after election night, and there was no absolute victor pending the counting of 250 absentee ballots.

Hamilton defeated Republican incumbent Mayor William Hallenbeck Jr.
