51% Show #1351

On this week’s 51%, a woman talks about her non-profit group helping young people released from prison. We'll also hear about a women's prison book project, and a daughter shares her experience of loving and letting go of her father.

In New York City a food truck with a purpose takes a chance on young people fresh out of jail. It’s a way for the previously incarcerated youth to integrate back into society by earning paychecks and getting work experience. Pierre Bienaimé has this Deutsche Welle Generation Change report.

Meanwhile, a Minneapolis-based Women's Prison Book Project aims to get reading material into the hands of women who are behind bars. The nonprofit group, which is at Boneshaker Books, organizes donations to prisoners nationwide. Dixie Treichel reports.

We close this show with a Father's Day tribute, bringing you a story from journalist Adrian Nicole LeBlanc about loving while letting go.

And that’s our show for this week. Thanks to Katie Britton for production assistance. Our executive producer is Dr. Alan Chartock. Our theme music is Glow in the Dark by Kevin Bartlett. This show is a national production of Northeast Public Radio.
