BILLBOARD - Susan Barnett (Music Out)

There's been a lot of concern about bats - with much of the Northeast finding its bat populations dying off. Researchers are studying it but don't have a sure cure - and now the Midwest is starting to be affected and they face a second threat. Farmer Shelly Cox and her husband rely on migrating bats to minimize the need for pesticides. Cox credits the bats that visit her family's 86-acre farm outside Savannah, MO. as a big reason why they've only used pesticides twice in the last 15 years. But that could change soon. Wildlife experts in the heartland are preparing for a serious one-two punch to the bat population: a mysterious fungus spreading from the northeast, and the proliferation of wind power.

If you are a young woman, or remember when you were a young woman, chances are the one topic that dominated any discussion about health was food - what you ate, what you didn't eat, how many calories or fat you had, how you lost weight or didn't. This week on Alive and Kicking, Dr. Sharon Ufberg explains why those topics are missing the real point.

4:59 Sclamberg Ufberg
