2020 Altamont Fair Canceled

Altamont Fair

Another large Capital Region event has been canceled due to COVID-19.
The Altamont Fair in Albany County was canceled only once before: in 1943 during World War II. Now, coronavirus has forced its cancellation in 2020. Fair ManagerAmy Anderson:

"When we were looking at the CDC guidelines that were coming forward and tryingto find ways that we could keep the public and our volunteers safe, we just could not come up with a reasonable plan that was cost-effective, that would enable us to maintain social distancing, and you know, have thermal body checks at the gate, that kind of thing."

Anderson says the Altamont Fair will take this next year to prepare for the 2021 version, scheduled for next August.

Dave Lucas is WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief. Born and raised in Albany, he’s been involved in nearly every aspect of local radio since 1981. Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.
