2 Killed In Upstate New York Shooting

Police in upstate New York are investigating a shooting that left two people dead at an Oneida County house in Deerfield. It happened at about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday.

State police say the investigation suggests the homeowner, Ronald Stolarczyk, interrupted a burglary and shot the victims, Nicholas A. Talerico and Patricia Anne Talerico, with an illegally owned handgun. Police told the Observer-Dispatch of Utica that the victims were in a garage area of the home when they were shot.

Police say Nicholas Talerico managed to escape the scene and go to a hospital, where he later died. Patricia Talerico was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Stolarczyk has been arrested and charged with criminal possession of a firearm. He is awaiting centralized arraignment at the Oneida County Jail.

State police say the investigation is ongoing.
