#1545: Former Governor Pens A Memoir About Aging

On this week’s 51%, we’ll spend our time with a former U.S. ambassador who also was the first woman governor in her state. She’s finished her fourth book, a memoir, about aging.

Madeleine Kunin was the first woman elected governor of Vermont. She served the Green Mountain state from 1985 until 1991. She served as U.S. deputy secretary of education and the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland under President Bill Clinton. She is James Marsh Professor-at-Large at the University of Vermont, where she gives guest lectures on feminism and women and politics. And she is author Madeleine Kunin. Her most recent and fourth book is “Coming of Age: My Journey to the Eighties.” It’s a memoir that looks at what it is like to grow old. Before we dive into more about her book, I asked Ambassador Kunin about her take on the record number of women elected to Congress.

That was Ambassador Madeleine Kunin. Her latest book is “Coming of Age: My Journey to the Eighties.” Her three previous books are “Living a Political Life”; “The New Feminist Agenda: Defining the Next Revolution for Women”; and Pearls Politics and Power.”
