A new poll out Thursday finds Democrat Hillary Clinton enjoys a large lead over Republican Donald Trump among likely voters in Massachusetts.

Clinton leads Trump by a margin of 58 percent to 26 percent among likely voters in the latest survey from the Western New England University Polling Institute.

Clinton has a 32- point lead even though 44 percent of the voters surveyed have a negative opinion of her, according to institute director Tim Vercellotti.

" It is because Donald Trump has a 75 percent unfavorability rating in Massachusetts and hence was have this dynamic that we have seen in other parts of the country as well," said Vercellotti.

The Democratic presidential nominee has carried Massachusetts by more than 20 points in each of the general elections since 2000.  Bill Clinton carried the state by 33 points in 1996.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
