Assistant Morning Edition Producer

Jesse King has been WAMC’s Assistant Morning Edition Producer since December 2018. A graduate of SUNY Oneonta, King first joined the WAMC newsroom as an intern in September 2018. She grew up an avid writer and radio-nerd in Apalachin, New York, and spent much of college managing WONY 90.9 FM, contributing to the student-run podcast, Oneonta Voices, and interning with Phoenix FM in Dublin, Ireland. She holds a BA in Music Industry and Mass Communications, and plays the fiddle in her free time.

Ben Simmons had a triple-double of 18 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds as the 76ers outscored the Nets, 145-123. The All-Star guard was 8-for-12 from the floor, two days after hearing boos while scoring nine points on 4 of 9 shooting. The Sixers busted the game open with a 14-0 run to start the second half and led by 29 before the third quarter was over. Joel Embiid delivered 13 of his 23 points in the third period and finished with 10 boards.

The comeback is complete. Tiger Woods has his fifth Masters title. The 43-year-old Woods shot a 2-under 70 for one-stroke victory and his 15th major championship. But it was his first since the 2008 U.S. Open, capping a remarkable recovery from debilitating injuries and embarrassing personal problems.


Students on campuses across the country are walking “Out of the Darkness” to fundraise for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the latest road team to open the Stanley Cup playoffs with a victory. Mitch Marner scored twice and Frederik Andersen made 37 saves as the Leafs downed the Bruins, 4-1 in Boston.

The Islanders blew three leads before Josh Bailey scored off a rebound 4:39 into overtime to give New York a 4-3 victory over the Penguins. Nick Leddy tallied with 7:25 remaining to put the Isles ahead 3-2, but the Pens extended the game on Justin Schultz's goal about six minutes later. Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who host Game 2 on Friday.

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox blanketed Fenway Park with pieces of the city's championship past to welcome the newest members of their World Series title club. It wasn't enough to ward off another setback for a team yet to resemble the one that hoisted the trophy last year. Chris Sale let a Toronto runner steal home , Mookie Betts fanned with two on for the final out and the Red Sox stumbled again, losing to the Blue Jays 7-5 Tuesday in their home opener.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is pledging to reverse federal cuts to YouthBuild career-training programs.

NCAA Tournament 2019

The Cavaliers have claimed the NCAA men's basketball title by outlasting Texas Tech, 85-77 in overtime. It's the first national championship in men's hoops for the Cavaliers and comes one year after they became the first team to lose to a No. 16 seed in the tournament.

D'Angelo Russell scored 20 points and Joe Harris added 19 in leading Brooklyn to a 108-96 victory over the Pacers. The Nets scored the last seven points of the third quarter and used two 3s early in the fourth to build a 95-78 cushion.

The Washington Capitals have wrapped up the NHL's Metropolitan Division crown, leaving just one division up for grabs. Nic Dowd scored the tiebreaking goal in the second period and Braden Holtby stopped 33 shots as the Caps downed the Canadiens, 2-1.

The USS Slater at the Destroyer Escort Museum opened for its 22nd tour season in Albany, New York this week. I toured the World War II vessel as volunteers prepared for the new season.

Toronto won its fifth in a row as Pascal Siakam had 28 points and 10 rebounds in the Raptors' 115-105 downing of the Nets. Kawhi Leonard added 26 points and nine boards for the Atlantic Division champs.

Amed Rosario hit a two-run double in the New York Mets' five-run first inning against Jose Urena and started a game-ending double play in a 6-5 victory over the Miami Marlins. Wilson Ramos and Dominic Smith each had two hits and an RBI for the Mets, who improved to 4-1 for the second straight year. Jason Vargas allowed two runs in five innings in his season debut.

Kyrie Irving had 25 points and hit a pair of key late free throws to send the Celtics past the Heat, 110-105. Al Horford registered a triple-double of 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for Boston, which saw a 23-point, second-quarter lead shrink to three midway through the final period.

Cassius Winston put Michigan State on his shoulders and carried the Spartans into the Final Four. The do-everything point guard took over the game when his team faced its biggest deficit and led second-seeded Michigan State to a 68-67 victory over overall No. 1 seed Duke on Sunday in the East Region final.

Ty Jerome scored 13 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:34 remaining, and No. 1 seed Virginia reached its second regional final in four years with a 53-49 victory over No. 12 Oregon in the NCAA South Region. Points were hard to come by for both schools, especially for the Cavaliers on a night they shot just 36 percent and matched a season low in scoring.

UCF almost pulled off the biggest victory in the history of its men's basketball program. Zion Williamson had 32 points and RJ Barrett scored on a putback to put top seed Duke ahead in a 77-76 triumph over the Knights in the second round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

The madness has begun in earnest as 32 men's basketball teams battled Thursday to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. No. 12 Murray State was among three double-digit seeds to win, in a 83-64 upset over No. 5 Marquette.

D'Angelo Russell scored 27 of his career-high 44 points in the fourth quarter, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson made a layup with eight-tenths of a second remaining, and the Brooklyn Nets rallied from 28 points down in the second half to beat the Sacramento Kings 123-121 Tuesday night and snap a four-game losing streak.

Nikola Jokic had 21 points and 13 rebounds and the Denver Nuggets rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Boston Celtics 114-105.  The Nuggets have won four straight and clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2012-13. Kyrie Irving led the Celtics with 30 points.

Emmanuel Mudiay provided 28 points and eight assists as the Knicks beat the Lakers, 124-123 to end an eight game losing streak. New York closed on a 13-1 run and clinched the victory when Mario Hezonja blocked LeBron James' potential game-winning shot with 2.3 seconds to play.
