Plattsburgh Supervisor Michael Cashman Discusses Town Issues

The Town of Plattsburgh has a number of initiatives in progress and is actively pursuing new businesses.  A new Kohl’s will soon open at one shopping mall, and down the road sporting goods supplier Runnings is renovating a former K-Mart store.  Town officials are also looking at long-term Smart Growth plans to create a walkable sustainable community that links residential areas with the commercial growth centers.  Town Supervisor Michael Cashman, a Democrat, tells WAMC North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley there’s a high level of interest from a number of new businesses that have been scouting the uptown corridor.“Demand continues to be very strong. Interestingly enough we have been tracking over the last several months our activity through our planning board. I think we’re averaging about thirteen to fifteen items in our planning department. Why I bring that up is you don’t see that type of activity unless you’re a community down near South Glens Falls. So when you’re cresting through the peaks of the Adirondack Mountains and seeing it on this side of the valley that’s a really strong indicator that the town is doing good. In fact one of the businesses that is scouting us is a new hotel. And when a new hotel is potentially knocking on your community’s door that’s a very very strong indicator that you’re filling beds for what is needed 12 months a year but there is still need beyond that.”

Democrat Michael Cashman has been serving as Town of Plattsburgh Supervisor since 2016 and at 34 was the youngest person ever elected as a town supervisor in Clinton County.
