College Closes Buildings After Beeping Package Found

WAMC/Pat Bradley

The State University of New York at Plattsburgh briefly closed several campus buildings Tuesday after a suspicious package was reported.

A beeping package was found in the postal box just outside the entrance to the Angell College Center at about 9 o’clock Tuesday morning.  The student center and nearby classrooms were evacuated and closed temporarily.

College Spokesman Ken Knelly explained what occurred.  "As the University Police were examining the situation, a student came forward and indicated that it possibly could be a heart monitor that had been mailed earlier. The state police determined that it was in fact a heart monitor.”

The affected buildings - the college center, Meyers Fine Arts and the library - reopened by 2pm Tuesday.
