Governor Andrew Cuomo said Friday that New York state’s K through 12 schools will remain closed until at least April 15 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"They [schools] have to continue the programs they're doing," Cuomo said. "They have to continue the childcare, continue the meals and continue the distance-learning programs. I'll continue the waiver on what's called the 180-day mandate that they have to be in operation."

New York has the most cases of COVID-19 of any state. Speaking at a temporary hospital in Manhattan Friday, Cuomo says he will ask President Trump to approve four more temporary hospitals in hopes of having one in each New York City borough.

The governor said today there have been 519 deaths from the disease, up from 385 reported yesterday.
