A Green Party member has joined the race for the 46th district in the New York Senate.
Activist Robert Alft of Voorheesville says he wants to make space for voters who don’t feel represented by “corporate parties.” Alft is a retired school bus driver who cites his activism with Veterans for Peace and the Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace.
In an email Monday, Alft said his main campaign issues are a "Green New Deal to combat catastrophic climate change, including the prevention of the opening of any new fracked gas electrical generation plants, and passing the New York Health Act for single-payer universal healthcare."
Republican Senator George Amedore said in November that he would not run for re-election. Michelle Hinchey and Gary Greenberg are seeking the Democratic nomination.
The 46th District includes parts of Albany, Schenectady and Ulster Counties, and all of Montgomery and Greene Counties.
