NY Lawmakers Announce Deal On Limo Regulations

Lawmakers and advocates detail limo regulations Tuesday at the New York state Capitol.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced an agreement with the Senate Majority Leader and Assembly Speaker on a package of limousine safety regulations.

The Democratic governor on Tuesday said the package includes seatbelt requirements, impounding of defective limousines, increased penalties for illegal u-turns, GPS requirements, regular validation of vehicle and driver safety information and new commercial driver's license requirements for limo drivers. It also calls for the creation of a passenger task force and drug and alcohol testing.

The Democratic-controlled legislature has decided to fast-track the limo regulations this year after failing to pass them in 2019.

The regulations were crafted with input from families of the victims of the deadly Schoharie limo crash in October 2018.
