The City of Saratoga Springs has boomed with investment and development in recent years. But not all populations have benefited.

The Bethesda Episcopal Church in Saratoga Springs is launching an effort to assist the city's homeless population and those otherwise unable to afford rising housing costs.

Called "Mercy House", the new non-profit is planning a facility on Washington Street beside the historic church, just steps away from Broadway.

Gordon Boyd, president of Mercy House, tells WAMC's Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard about the need for such a shelter.

Lucas Willard is a reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011.
