Saratoga Springs Police Chief Greg Veitch plans to retire this spring. WAMC’s Lucas Willard reports the city’s Public Safety commissioner has kind words for the man who has been chief for the last six years.
Public Safety Commissioner Peter Martin said the city will be well-served by its officers when Chief Veitch steps down May 31st, but says he will miss him.
“He has a particularly sharp mind for systems, policies, and he has brought a lot to the Saratoga Springs Police Department in his time as chief.”
Veitch, who joined the force in 1995, said in an emailed statement Saturday that he is looking forward to spending “more time with family, continuing to write and teach, and following wherever God leads” him.
Commission Martin, who previously served with Veitch’s brother Matt on the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors, is not running for re-election after his first term ends in December. He said he will devote himself to new business and personal opportunities.
