New York Congressmen Call For Action On PFAS Chemicals

Wikipedia

New York Democratic members of Congress are calling for action after news that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency would not move to set limits for PFAS chemicals – a group of believed carcinogens found in several communities.

Compounds PFOA and PFOS have contaminated water supplies in Hoosick Falls, Petersburgh, Newburgh, and other communities.

Paul Tonko of New York’s 20th District chairs the House Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee. He signed onto a letter Tuesday requesting more information on EPA actions to block the release of a chemical hazard study on PFAS chemicals.

Sean Patrick Maloney of New York’s 18th District said “If the EPA has decided to protect polluters instead of human health, it’s up to Congress to pass legislation to force them to do the right thing.”

Representative Antonio Delgado of New York’s 19th District said “the EPA must take the issue of water contamination seriously” and added he would do “everything in [his] power to step up efforts to address” PFAS contamination.  Delgado was recently named to a PFAS task force, as was Republican Peter King of Long Island.
