A stretch of highway from the Albany County line to the Warren County line has been designated in honor of naval veterans. The stretch of Route 9 that runs through Saratoga County was designated Thursday as the "United States Submarine Veterans Memorial Highway-Saratoga County."

The bill to establish the memorial was sponsored by Democratic Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner and Republican Senator Kathy Marchione and was recently signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The highway was chosen for the designation for the Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit in West Milton, Knolls Atomic Power Labs in Schenectady, the Scotia and Saratoga Naval Support Units and local submarine veterans groups.
