Young NY Hunters Get The Option Of Fluorescent Pink

NY DEC / enhanced by Dave Lucas

New York has authorized fluorescent pink as alternate protective coloring for young hunters in an appeal to girls who'd rather not wear blaze orange.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed the law making solid or patterned pink optional alongside traditional orange worn by hunters.

Either color is now required for licensed deer or bear hunters 14 or 15 years old and their accompanying adults.

Until now, at least half their garments above the waist had to be fluorescent orange and visible from all directions, amounting to at least 250 square inches.

The bright colors, which deer cannot detect, help hunters avoid being shot by other hunters.
