Destructive Insect Found In Saratoga County

Courtesy of Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies

An invasive insect that threatens native trees has been found in Saratoga County.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced the discovery of Emerald ash borer in Ballston Lake and Waterford.

The number of counties in New York affected by EAB has risen to 34. Acting DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos says while the beetle is spreading across New York, a number of counties “remain uninfested.”

DEC is asking  residents and municipalities to inventory their ash trees and inspect for the bright green bug. The spread of the destructive inspect can be stalled by not transporting firewood out of infected areas.
