Adirondack Plane Crash Kills Four

State police say a civilian plane has crashed in the Adirondack Mountains, killing four people aboard.

Troopers say they were notified at about 6:30 Friday night that a plane had gone down just north of Adirondack Airport in Lake Clear outside Saranac Lake.

A state police aviation unit located the downed aircraft approximately one-half mile northwest of the airport. Investigators responding to the crash site say the aircraft was completely destroyed and local fire departments had to extinguish flames at the scene of the crash.

The four victims were found dead among the wreckage. They have not yet been identified.

Federal aviation officials were en route to the scene Saturday.

State police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the crash to call 518-897-2000.
