NY Gov: Feds Must Contribute More For Hudson Tunnels

Governor Andrew Cuomo says new rail tunnels are needed under the Hudson River to alleviate congestion and the federal government needs to commit more money for the project to make it work.

The Democrat said Wednesday on a radio broadcast that he and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie agree on the need for new tunnels. But he says the federal government's promise to cover $3 billion of the $14 billion project isn't enough.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx wrote to both governors on Monday urging them to meet with him to discuss the stalled tunnels plan following a series of train delays for New Jersey Transit riders.

Cuomo says that if federal officials increase their commitment then New York will make the project a priority.
