DEC Euthanizes Aggressive Deer Familiar With Cambridge Neighbors

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has euthanized a reportedly aggressive deer that was familiar with neighbors in the Washington County town of Cambridge.

DEC officers received complaints about the deer known to locals in the Ash Grove area of Cambridge bumping into children at a bus stop and causing other disturbances.

In a statement, the DEC said, “Euthanizing an animal is always an option of last resort.”

While officers responded to a call on Monday, the deer reportedly jumped on its hind legs and kicked at one of the officers.

It is believed the deer became accustomed to being fed by the neighbors. The DEC reminded residents that feeding wildlife “interferes with a natural healthy balance between wildlife populations and their habitat.”
