New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced Sunday his office has begun taking legal action against price gougers during the snow emergency affecting Western New York.
Cease and desist letters have been sent to businesses accused of engaging in price gouging and the AG's office is investigating reports of other businesses allegedly illegally raising prices.
In a release, the Attorney General said he would “crack down on scammers and fraudsters trying to take advantage of consumers who have already been victimized by this storm.”
As the snow melts and flood damage is predicted, Schneiderman warned homeowners to beware of being victimized by “shady contractors.”
