Panel Finds Unfair Campaign Practices In Halfmoon Town Board Race

After a hearing Wednesday evening, an elections fairness group has found unfair campaign practices committed by Democratic and Republican candidates running for a southern Saratoga County Town board.

The findings released Thursday afternoon by Fair Campaign Practices for the Capital Region say Republican town board candidates Daphne Jordan and Jeremy Connors committed unfair campaign practices by implying through a campaign mailer that Democratic candidate Joe Christopher was involved in a cocaine ring, that Democrat Deanna Stephenson hadn’t voted before running for office, and that Stephenson had tried to cut a political deal for a spot on the town’s ethics board.

The board also found Christopher of committing an unfair campaign practice by sending a press release attempting to tie Jordan to “tainted” money contributed by Halfmoon builder and Republican political donor Bruce Tanski. Tanski is accused of violating campaign finance laws.

The group did not find an unfair campaign practice related to a mailer released by Deanna Stephenson, after a complaint by Connors.
