'Gifts For Guns' Returns To Capital City

WAMC photo by Dave Lucas

Get gift cards for guns now through Christmas.

The popular initiative to get more guns off the streets returns for another holiday season: Drop off any working handgun that is not on a permit at Victory Christian Church at 118 Quail Street and you 'll receive a One Hundred and Fifty Dollar Crossgates Gift Card, no questions asked. Proponents say it's a great way to make the city a little safer while pocketing a little extra cash for Christmas.

Last year over thirty hand guns were turned in: the gift cards can be redeemed at any store in Crossgates Mall. Ten guns have been already turned in.

In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed.
