NY Utilities To Issue Superstorm Rebates

Customers who lost services during Superstorm Sandy will be getting breaks on their bills from New York utilities. WAMC’s Dave Lucas has more…

Regulators on Thursday approved requests from Consolidated Edison, Orange and Rockland Utilities, National Grid and New York State Electric and Gas to give credits for lost days of service on customer bills.

The breaks on the service part of the bill range from several dollars for residential customers to several hundred dollars for larger users like businesses, municipalities and lighting districts.

Con Ed will give back $6.5 million to electric and steam customers. NYSEG plans $500,000 in electric bill breaks and Orange and Rockland $800,000. National Grid gas customers in New York City and on Long Island will also get credits.
