Albany, NY – Representatives of the State University of New York's 64 campuses came together Monday in Albany - WAMC's Dave Lucas was on hand for "SUNY DAY"
SUNY Day is an annual event organized by the system administration and government relations leaders where delegations made up of students, faculty and administrators come together in an effort to bring forth ideas and concerns regarding the State University of New York system.
Spokesman David Belsky says the occasion shows the legislature what kind of opportunities SUNY is providing for New Yorkers. Manhattan Assemblymember Deborah Glick chairs the higher Education Committee, prides herself on being a product of public education, and is looking to the state for additional support. SUNY Chairman of the Board Carl McCall points out the system is dedicated to providing quality, affordable education. SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher reflected on what the system faced in years past and how it stacks up today. Zimpher explains high school students around the state looking to attend college can depend on the strength of the university system as they prepare for careers which will lead to productive, happy lives. SUNY New Paltz President Don Christian relishes the opportunity to get together with colleagues.
SUNY Day 2012 also hosted students from schools from grades K through 12 from across the state - the young people visited showcases set up by some of the SUNY colleges and talked with college students about the opportunities available throughout the SUNY system.
