NYSERDA Retrofits Available In The Hudson Valley
By Dave Lucas
Kingston, NY – Some of the highest heating oil prices in New York State appear in Ulster and Dutchess Counties. Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports that the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has a program in place to help homeowners meet the price challenge head-on:
With the cost of heating oil creeping upwards as much as 25 per cent in some communities, NYSERDA's Assistant Director of Communications Dayle Zatlin explains the agency has stepped in with a "deep energy retrofit program" - 5 teams are sharing a 1-point-8 million dollar award to apply new technology to weatherize older homes. She explains that the basic idea behind the "retrofit" is turning a drafty old house into a model of energy efficiency. Zatlin says "moisture barriers" are one of the most popular retrofits - she points out that only New York City Residents and Long Islanders pay more to heat their homes.
