Albany, NY – Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets, the New York Stock Exchange and the Brooklyn Bridge to raise their voices against what they say is corporate excess. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill takes a look at this, and other demonstrations around the region...
More than 300 people were arrested at Occupy Wall Street protests on Thursday, a demonstration marking the two-month anniversary of the movement against what some say is economic inequality.
In Albany, several hundred protesters who joined the Occupy Albany demonstration have taken their grievances inside the state Capitol. Activists chanted and presented documents yesterday to Governor Andrew Cuomo's office and the Senate Republican majority urging them to extend the state millionaire's tax.
In Burlington, VT, police say about one hundred Occupy activists marched through Burlington last night, blocking traffic along the way. This comes one week after their encampment was shut down in City Hall park, following a shooting.
In Hartford, Connecticut, more than 100 people chanting and carrying signs marched through downtown Hartford yesterday, whose participants included people from Occupy Hartford, labor groups and community organizations. Hartford police made about a dozen arrests during the demonstration.
In Boston, Massachusetts, hundreds from the Occupy Boston movement and union members rallied at the Charlestown Bridge late yesterday, highlighting the need for jobs.
And in the Berkshires, the Berkshire Eagle reports that the Occupy Berkshires movement will stage a 24-hour encampment this weekend. The overnight event is scheduled to begin at noon tomorrow in front of town hall in Great Barrington.
