Plattsburgh, NY – The Governor's office announced four-point-two million dollars in Community Development Block Grants to 12 communities across the state. The federally funded state awards are expected to leverage 64-million dollars in private business investment. The City of Watervliet received three grants, totaling 355-thousand dollars. It will help an apparel company expand, a restaurant renovate, and create a micro-enterprise grant program. Watervliet Department of Planning and Community Revitalization Deputy General Manager Rosemary Nichols says the hope is that the grants will help re-establish businesses along two of their main streets.

Nichols says there is investor interest in the grant program.

The 375-thousand dollar grant that the Essex County Town of Willsboro will receive will help create a senior assisted living facility in a former high school building. Willsboro Supervisor Ed Hatch says it will enhance employment long-term and during the construction phase.

Future Community Economic Development Block Grants will be made under the sponsorship of the Regional Economic Development Councils.
