Crown Point, NY & Addison, VT – Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin's office says a ribbon-cutting for the new bridge linking New York and Vermont will be held Monday afternoon. A press officer with NY Governor Andrew Cuomo's office confirmed to WAMC that Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy will attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2:30 Monday afternoon and the bridge will open to traffic immediately following. Governor Cuomo issued a written statement noting: "When the bridge was closed and demolished in 2009, it was estimated to take eight years to rebuild...Today's announcement demonstrates that government can work effectively and efficiently for the people..." Vermont Agency of Transportation Deputy Secretary Sue Minter.

Lake Champlain Bridge Coalition member Karen Hennessey owns the Sugar Hill Manor Bed and Breakfast in Crown Point. While free ferries helped, she is exhilarated to hear that the bridge will finally open.

Lake Champlain Bridge Coalition Bridge member Lisa Cloutier owns the Bridge Restaurant near the Vermont landing of the span. She renamed her establishment the "No-Bridge" Restaurant two years ago.

Town of Moriah Supervisor Tom Scozzafava hopes officials remember the lessons of the Champlain Bridge.

The new bridge was expected to open on Oct. 9 but work was delayed.
The $70 million span replaces one demolished in December 2009 amid safety concerns.
