New York, NY – The report "New York in the World: The Impact of the Global Economy on New York State and City" was released by the Center for an Urban Future and the SUNY Levin Institute. The Institute's mission is to support the state's economy by studying the global economy. President Garrick Utley says there has been much anecdotal talk about how New York State is competing in the global market, and this report is the first comprehensive effort to compile data and assess the impact. A release describing the report says it finds a "complex and disturbing relationship" between the studied sectors and their impact on the state's economy. The Levin Institute's Garrick Utley says the report's findings are disturbing on two fronts. Center for an Urban Future Executive Director Jonathan Bowles is a co-author of the report. He says it's important for policy makers to realize that the global economy is a critical backdrop for state economic growth decisions and strategic planning. The Rockefeller Institute of Government will host a Public Policy Forum to discuss the report on Friday November 4th in Albany.
