Lesbian Ex-Cadet Rejected from West Point

New Paltz, NY – An openly-gay woman, and former West Point cadet, has been rejected in her attempt to reenter the academy. WAMC's Greg Fry reports...

Katherine Miller left the U.S. Military Academy last year, saying she couldn't lie about her sexuality. The 21-year-old from Ohio reapplied to West Point around the same time that Congress voted to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in December. The repeal will go into effect 60 days after officials certify that it won't hurt the fighting ability of troops. Officials at the academy say they reached the only decision they could, because the repeal of the policy is not in effect yet. After leaving West Point, Miller transferred to Yale University.
