Albany, NY – New York Republicans on Tuesday picked Jay Townsend to face Senator Charles Schumer in November - Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports.

Townsend says he received more votes in the primary than the total number of votes cast in the 2006 Senate Primary, and The GOP has its back to the wind. Townsend, a political consultant from Cornwall-on-Hudson, says he'll work closely with GOP Gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino and adds he's ready to meet any challenge his democratic opponent Chuck Schumer can muster. Townsend plans to cite Schumer's record and is calling on the Senator to hold a series of debates across the state. Townsend has a relatively small bank account compared to Schumer's huge war chest but says he's not worried. He welcomes tea-party support and will also appear on the Conservative Party line in the November election. Calls to Senator Schumer's office were not returned in time for broadcast.
