Albany, NY – A new study finds the average fare for flights out of Albany International Airport topped all others in New York State in the first quarter of 2010. WAMC's Steve Felano reports...

A study released last week by the U.S. Department of Transportation looks at average domestic air fares from the first quarter of 2010, for the country's top one hundred airports.

The average fare reported for Albany International Airport is $361.35 - higher than the average at any other major airport in New York State.

Albany International sits at 25th in the study's national ranking of average domestic fares for the quarter.

It ranks 5th in a national look at the largest fare increases from 2009 to 2010, with an increase of 14.6 percent.

Average fares were based on domestic itinerary fares, round-trip or one-way, for which no return was purchased. Additional fees charged by an outside entity at the time of purchase were included in the average. Baggage fees, frequent-flyer or "zero fares", and a few abnormally high reported fares were not considered.
