Troy, NY – The future of Troy City Hall remains up in the air, as we hear in this update from Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas.
Plans to convert the old Proctor's theatre into a new City Hall have hit the fence. Officials found out this week that they can't use Restore New York money to renovate the building. A developer had factored that 4-million dollar grant into estimated renovation costs. Empire State Development responded to a request for comment by email, stating "The purpose of the Restore NY Communities Initiative funding is to generate new tax base and promote private sector business. ESD would prefer the funds be used as stated in the city's application - for private development... We are looking into alternate award scenarios based in the proposed/potential scope modifications."
